St. Marys boys tennis downs Bluffton, 4-1

ST. MARYS — The St. Marys boys tennis team earned its first win of the spring with a strong performance against a senior-laden Bluffton squad on Tuesday night. The 4-1 victory inclued two singles wins and a  sweeping of the doubles matches.

“I thought we played really solid tennis at just about every position agains a pretty solid Bluffton team,” St. Marys head coach Brice Brenneman said. “They were an all-senior team and all those guys had started a year ago. I thought the scores reflected the play. It was a competitive match and I thought we played well across the board.”

At first singles, St. Marys’ Cole Brooks defeated Matt Deter, 6-3, 6-0.

St. Marys’ Jason Freewalt won second singles over Mike Deter, 6-1, 6-2.

The Roughriders’ first doubles team of Kevin Dammeyer and Zac Nelson won over Bluffton’s Kory Enneking and Aaron Bassinger, 6-2, 6-3.

The Riders’ second doubles team of Justin Nedderman and Noah Hartsock beat Nathan Diller and Justin Paul, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.

Bluffton earned its lone victory at third singles, where Luke Headings defeated St. Marys’ Nick Rohr, 6-4, 6-1.

The Riders travel to O-G on Friday.
