St. Marys boys soccer team will face Celina in sectional final

October 15, 2013

The St. Marys and Celina boys soccer teams will meet again — and this time someone will walk away a winner.

Celina beat Kenton 2-0 on Monday night in a sectional semifinal match at Ryan Field in Wapakoneta to advance to Thursday evening’s sectional championship game against the Roughriders.

St. Marys and Celina played to a scoreless tie in the regular season as well as a scoreless tie during the 2012 season. The two teams last played in a tournament match in 2007, when Celina won 2-0 in a sectional championship game.

In the other sectional semifinal at Wapakoneta on Monday Bath beat Wapakoneta 2-0. Bath moves on to face Shawnee on Thursday at 5 p.m. before the St. Marys-Celina match.

The winners of the two sectional title games move on to the Elida district tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The St. Marys-Celina winner plays the winner of Bryan and Ottawa-Glandorf at 7 p.m. The Bath-Shawnee winner faces Elida, Defiance or Van Wert.
