St. Marys ACME downs Minster
MINSTER — The script stayed the same for the second straight night for St. Marys — jump out early with the bats and keep adding on.
D.J. Manning and Nick Vogel each collected three hits, Tyler Roby and Brad Sawmiller held Minster’s bats to just two hits through the first six innings and the St. Marys ACME baseball team won 8-3 at Minster on Tuesday night.
St. Marys improved to 6-1 on the season. The Riders will host Celina tonight at 6:30 p.m., the second meeting between the Grand Lake St. Marys rivals in five days. St. Marys won at Celina on Saturday night.
“What we’re establishing is that we expect to win when we come out to play,” St. Marys head coach Alan Huber said.
St. Marys scored three times in the top of the first inning and four times in the top of the sixth.
Manning, the St. Marys centerfielder, broke out of a small slump to begin the summer with another strong game on Tuesday. A night after going 2-for-3 with two runs batted in at Shawnee, Manning went singled doubled home a run off the left field wall in the second and singled and scored in the sixth.
“D.J. the last couple of games has really played the way we expect him to play,” Huber said. “We didn’t’ worry about the slow start. Nothing really surprising. This is why we had him in the one-hole.”
Devon Poeppelman went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Minster. Adam Niemeyer collected a pair of hits.
