Special Response Team Responds To St. Marys Residence

Staff Writer

The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office responded to 211 Eastway Court just outside of St. Marys at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday on reports of a possible suicidal male. Upon arrival, the initial investigation revealed a male subject inside of a residence with a reported firearm making threats to harm himself.

Deputies attempted to speak with the male subject and he did come to the door with a firearm. He subsequently went back inside the residence after coming to the door. Deputies continued to try and talk the male subject out of his residence while he was still inside; however, these attempts were unsuccessful.

At this point, the Auglaize County Special Response Team and Shelby County Special Response Team responded to the residence. Once the teams were on scene, continued attempts were made with the male to exit his residence.

After a period of time, the male subject did exit his residence without the firearm; however, he did not fully comply with commands from deputies and a tazer was deployed. The male subject was taken to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys to be medically cleared per protocol. Once the male subject was medically cleared, he was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center for further evaluation due to the nature of the incident.

The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by St. Marys Police Department, St. Marys Fire and EMS and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol also assisted with traffic control during this incident.

This incident still remains under investigation and nothing further can be released at this time.
