SOFTBALL: Riders run-rule Elida, New Bremen beats Allen East

ELIDA — St. Marys’ Harle Smith homered and doubled while driving in four runs as the St. Marys softball team run-ruled the Elida Bulldogs in five innings, 12-2, on Friday night.

Smith collected three hits to lead a nine-hit Roughrider hitting attack.

Shelby Goodwin drove in two runs for St. Marys. Kiley Schamp tripled, had two hits and an RBI. Katlyn Brown and Paige Dicus each added an RBI.

Lexi Roop earned the win in the circle for the Roughriders, limiting the Bulldogs to only two hits.

St. Marys improved to 4-6, 2-2 in the Western Buckeye League.

Elida fell to 2-8, 0-4 in the WBL.


NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen softball team put up multiple runs in each of its four innings at bat and Kristin Sprague tossed a two-hit shutout for the Cardinals in a 12-0 run-rule win.

Sprague gave up only two hits and relied on her defense behind her, as she walked three and didn’t strike any batters out.

New Bremen improved to 6-8.

Allen East fell to 5-8.

Gina Griesdorn went 3-for-3 with a double at the plate. Julie Brown went 3-for-3.  Rachel Parker doubled.
