SOFTBALL: Riders fall in pitcher's duel, Minster and New Bremen roll


ST. MARYS — The St. Marys Roughriders committed four errors and the Kenton Bulldogs took full advantage as they scored two unearned runs to defeat the Riders 2-1 in a WBL game held at K. C. Geiger Park.

The Riders, down 2-0, got on the board with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kiley Schamp led off with a single to center and went to second on a bunt by Kaitlyn Brown and Schamp scored on a single to left by Harle Smith, but Roop grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Lexi Roop gave up two unearned runs on six hits. She struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter. Goecke gave up one run on four hits. She struck out seven and walked one.

The Riders (3-5, 1-2) will travel to Elida on Friday, while the game against Piqua on Thursday against the Riders was cancelled.


BOTKINS — Julie Brown went 3-for-3 and drove in seven runs and the New Bremen softball team rolled to a 16-1 win over the Trojans in five innings.

Gina Griesdorn went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Rachel Parker was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.

Kristen Sprague gave up one run on three hits and struck out six for the Cardinals, who improved to 5-7 on the season.


ANNA — The Minster softball team bounced back from Monday’s loss by taking it out on the Anna Rockets, posting a 26-0 win on Tuesday.

Minster’s Kathy Prenger drove in four runs. Jayden Hahn and Sara Hosey collected three RBI apiece. Stephanie Albers hit a home run for the Wildcats.

Kayla Richard struck out five and in a shutout performance in the pitching circle.
