WAPAKONETA — The Minster softball team could start celebrating — and breathe a big sign of relief — when  pitcher Kayla Richards got Michelle Bruns to fly out to left field giving the Wildcats their first-ever Division IV district softball championship at Wapakoneta on Friday.

Minster used a five-run fifth inning and took advantage of five St. Henry errors to defeat the Redskins 7-5.

“It feels great,” Minster head coach Scott Robinson said. “I’m proud of the girls. Our goal at the beginning of the year was to get to state. I know we are not there yet, but I’m proud of them for sticking to it and doing the work.”

The Wildcats (24-6) will now compete next Wednesday in the regional semi-final at Tipp City beginning at 5 p.m.. Minster will play Southeastern, who defeated Riverside 14-2.

St. Henry ends its season at 17-7.
