BATH TOWNSHIP —  Celina’s powerful offense, paired with a strong performance in the pitching circle by Kaitlynn Kerr, muscled Celina past their Western Buckeye League rivals and into the sectional title game.

Celina collected 14 hits and coasted to a 9-2 Division II sectional softball semifinal win over St. Marys on Saturday.

“Our offense has been really good all season and it was again today,” Celina head coach Nicole Diggs said.

Kaitlynn Kerr went the distance in the pitching circle, striking out five. The only runs she gave up came in the top of the seventh inning when the Celina defense committed two errors behind her.

Celina beat the Roughriders 12-2 in the regular season match-up and the Bulldogs’ offense provided more of the same pop in the postseason.

“They’re just a heck of a hitting team,” St. Marys head coach Sue Grothause said. “They come out, they’re aggressive and they’re swinging. We knew going into it they could hit the snot out of the ball.”

The Roughriders slipped to 4-13 on the season and will host Ottawa-Glandorf on Wednesday, May 9 at 5 p.m. in WBL action.

Celina moves on to play the winner of Van Wert and Wapakoneta on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Bath for a sectional title. The Cougars and Redskins had their game on Saturday postponed until today at 5 p.m.

MINSTER 10, FORT RECOVERY 1

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen and Minster’s softball teams started their tournament runs a day late, but they weren’t short of anything.

New Bremen took advantage of some Flyer miscues in the third inning and things snowballed as the Cardinals defeated the Marion Local Flyers 9-5 Sunday afternoon in the opening game of the Division IV softball tournament held at New Bremen.

Minster scored three runs in the first inning and was never threatened as the Wildcats cruised to a 10-1 victory and a sectional championship over the Fort Recovery Indians Sunday afternoon in the Division IV sectional final held at New Bremen.
