ST. MARYS — A local school district opened bids for its snow removal contract Friday afternoon.
St. Marys City Schools opened the two bids the district received, with both companies submitting bids for the contract being from St. Marys.
The apparent low bidder was HDL Property Services, with a bid of $789, followed by Whitney Paving and Sandblasting, who submitted a bid of $947.
"The next step is HDL will be well checked out," St. Marys City Schools Business Manager Kurt Kuffner said. "We will make sure HDL Property Services has all the necessary equipment we need."
He noted the company has history of working with the district.
"HDL currently holds the district's mowing contract," he said. "So we are familiar with their mowing services, but not their snow removal services."
The snow removal contract bids opened Friday are for the high school-middle school complex and are for a two-year snow removal season contract — for the 2012-13 and for the 2013-14 school years.
"Whitney Paving and Sandblasting has had the contract for the last two years for our snow removal," Kuffner said.
The St. Marys Board of Education will meet for a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, followed by its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
"We should have a recommendation for the board at its meeting that Thursday," Kuffner said.
