Shirley Mae Engel, 82

Shirley Mae Engel, 82, formerly of 503 E. Auglaize St., Wapakoneta, died on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Auglaize Acres Nursing Home.

She was born on April 2, 1930, in Cincinnati, to Louis and Frieda (Kattelman) Meier, and they preceded her in death.

On June 27, 1953, in Barnesburg, she married A. Eugene Engel, and he preceded her in death on June 24, 2009.

She is survived by a brother, Leroy (Hilda) Meier of Mount Healthy; a sister, Lois (Donald) Wingberger of Cincinnati; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Engel of St. Marys; a nephew; four nieces; her caregivers, David (Charlene) Curry of Wapakoneta.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Meier.

She was a 1949 graduate of Colerain High School.

She was a homemaker and had formerly been employed as a bookkeeper for Southwest Ohio Publishing Co. in Cincinnati. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in St. Marys.

Her favorite pastime was bowling.

Rites are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Miller – Long & Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., St. Marys, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be held after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
