Setex Breaks Ground

February 5, 2013

ST. MARYS — Setex broke ground on Monday on what will be a 40,000 square foot expansion to the welding facility to allow growth as the company takes on more seat construction for Honda.

Construction is slated to begin next week, weather permitting. The building is planned to be for a future program, to be opened in May, and won’t be in use until fall, after equipment is moved into the facility, said Setex representative Scott Rosenbeck.

While eventually the increase will mean more jobs, new jobs will not be added until the end of the year or early next year. Those jobs will support production at both the 1701 and the 1111 McKinley Road facilities.

“For me, I think it’s a positive thing for St. Marys obviously,” Rosenbeck said. “There will be some growth.”  The company plans to add making seats for the Acura in 2014, one reason the welding area needs expanding.

“We’re out of space essentially,” Rosenbeck said. Currently Setex manufactures complete seats for the Honda Accord two- and four-door vehicles, and the metals facility makes complete seat frames for the Accord, Pilot and Acura MDX.

“Good news for Setex, good news for St. Marys,” Rosenbeck said.
