Saturday Girls Basketball: New Bremen, Minster win
Minster 44, Fort Loramie 43
MINSTER — Claire Fischer drained a free throw with five seconds left to give Minster a 44-43 win over rival Fort Loramie on Saturday afternoon at Minster.
Minster rallied back from a deficit in the third quarter with a big run spurred by Bridget Geiger and Tara Clune.
Clune scored a team-high 14 points (eight of those in the second half) and Geiger added 12 points for the Wildcats (10 of those in the third quarter and all 12 in the second half).
Minster's lead evaporated in the final minutes of the game, with Fort Loramie tying the game at 43-43 with less than a minute to go on a Darian Rose putback basket. Rose scored a game-high 21 points for the Redskins, going 14-of-16 from the free throw line.
But a Fort Loramie turnover and a foul along the sideline near the scorer's table sent Fischer to the charity stripe, where she hit the front end of two foul shots.
The game was a rematch of last year's Division IV regional semifinal game that Fort Loramie won before heading to the state tournament.
Minster improved to 2-2 on the season. Fort Loramie fell to 3-2.
