JACKSON CENTER 64, NEW BREMEN 55
JACKSON CENTER — The New Bremen boys basketball team took too long to match stride with unbeaten Jackson Center.
A 17-1 Tiger run that started late in the first quarter and lasted into the second quarter proved to be a key stretch for Jackson Center in a 64-55 win over New Bremen on Saturday night in front of a packed house at Jackson Center.
“They’re a really good team and we knew coming in they were going to make plays, they were going to make shots,’ New Bremen head coach Adam Dougherty said. “And we didn’t respond to that. We acted like we were surprised that they made plays.”
The Tigers stayed unbeaten with a 13-0 record a worse shooting percentage and committing more turnovers than the Cardinals.
The Tigers plugged into the consistent offensive source of Andy Hoying when they needed big baskets. Hoying, the returning Shelby County League player of the year, scored 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Tigers.
New Bremen (8-4) had a three-game win streak snapped.
Derek Bornhorst scored a team-high 13 points for the Cardinals, while Troy Williams added 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Jackson Center had 24 free throw attempts while New Bremen attempted six free throws in the game.

“When you go on the road you can’t bury yourself,” Minster head coach Mike Lee said. “You have to give them credit. They are coming in playing well with a lot of confidence winning twice Tuesday and last night against Ft. Loramie.”
