Sam Swartz, 74, of 690 Hillcrest Drive in St. Marys, died at 10:20 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at St. Marys Living Center.

He was born on July 11, 1938, in St. Marys, to Samuel and Cynthia (Davis) Swartz.

On April 25, 1965, he married Kathryn Katterhenry, who died on Feb. 18, 1990.

Survivors include a son, Paul (Sue) Swartz  of St. Marys; three grandchildren, Chelsey, Corey and Nick; one brother, Charlie (Sue Ellen) Swartz  of St. Marys; one sister, Melody Thrush  of St. Johns; one sister-in-law, Janet Swartz  of St. Marys; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Cynthia Swartz; his wife Kathryn Swartz; brother Fred Swartz; brother-in-law Junior Thrush.

He served in the Ohio National Guard.

He retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys after 33 years of service.

His memberships included Eagles Lodge Aerie 767, American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289, all in St. Marys.

He enjoyed fishing. Sam was a family man who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Rites are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Ohio 703 West Chapel, in St. Marys, the Rev. Jon Kraner, officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, near Moulton.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home on Ohio 703 West.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Grand Lake Hospice.
