Ruby Althoff, 96

Ruby Howard Althoff, 96, of Vero Beach, Fla. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the VNA Hospice House.

Mrs. Althoff was born on Feb. 9, 1918, in Germantown.

She and her late husband, Gene, lived in Germantown for 25 years, before moving to Dayton.

They retired to Sarasota in 1977 and moved to Vero Beach in 2006.

Ruby enjoyed playing bridge and watching sports.

She was a member of Christ by the Sea Methodist Church and resided at Harbor Chase Assisted Living.

She is survived by her four children, David (Kathie) Althoff, of Vero Beach, Fla.; Sally Althoff, of Portland, Ore.; Sandra Althoff, of Venice, Italy; and Susan (Tom) Hughes, of Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Jeff (Valerie) Althoff of Beaufort, S.C.; Teresa (Darin) Strackbein, of Carmel, Ind.; niece, Elaine (Ronald) Bowman, of Lebanon; six great-grandchildren, Michael (Kasey) Althoff, Kelly and Blake Althoff, David, Morgan and Jessica Strackbein.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960 or to the Salvation Army, located at 2655 Fifth St. SW, Vero Beach, FL 32962.

Interment will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.

There will be a private memorial service for the family.  

A special memorial service for residents of Harbor Chase Assisted Living will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
