Round-Up: St. Marys track runs at Celina; Rider tennis edges Defiance, 3-2
CELINA — The St. Marys boys and girls track teams turned in a 19 top-four individual finishes in a tri-meet at Celina on Tuesday night.
The St. Marys boys team finished third with 24 points. Celina won with 83 points and Shawnee collected 67 points. Grand Lake Christian School earned one point.
The St. Marys girls team finished third with 17 points. Celina won with 117 points, and Shawnee had 41 points.
Boys Top Finishers
Second-place finishers for the St. Marys boys team were Logan Simons in the shot put (38-8), John Phillipe in the long jump (18-2.75), Taylor Grant in the pole vault (11-6), Brennan Brown in the 300 meter hurdles (42.2) and the 1600 meter relay team of Neil Perry, Det Mines, Luke Lemmerman and Anthony Tenney (3:46.3).
Girls Top Finishers
The Riders’ Sarah Walker finished second in the discus throw with a toss of 96 feet, one inch. The Rider girls 1600 meter relay team of Erin Kinkley, Kristen Dammeyer, Lexi Grothause and Sara Lininger finished second with a 4:28.6 time.
St. Marys 3, Defiance 2
DEFIANCE — St. Marys improved to 5-3 in the WBL and 9-5 overall. Troy Newlove won first singles 6-2, 6-2 over Michael Sanchez. Jason Freewalt defeated Nolan Parsons at third singles, 6-3, 7-5. The Riders’ Jacob Little and Tyler Parent won second doubles over Sun Kye Han and Nathan Gray, 6-0, 7-6 (7-4). St. Marys will host Wapakoneta on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
