Robert S. Nagel, 83

Robert S. Nagel, 83, of New Bremen, died at 1:02 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2012, at the Kindred Hospital in Lima.

He was born on July 23, 1928, in Minster, the son of Charles and Odillia (Schwieterman) Nagel.

On April 7, 1951, he married Donna L. Donnerberg, and she survives in New Bremen.  He is also survived by his children, James (Gayle) Nagel, Michael (Jill) Nagel, John (Ann) Nagel, all of New Bremen, Joyce (Hans) Stienke of St. Marys and Daniel (Jeff Logan) Nagel of Sarasota, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary (James) Brown of Minster; his daughter-in-law, Donna J. Nagel of New Bremen.  

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert S. Nagel; his granddaughter, Shannon Marie Nagel; his brothers, Wilfred “Bud,” Herb, Ben, Stanley, Don, Charles Jr. and Eugene Nagel; his sisters, Lucille Schlater and Joan Korte.

Mr. Nagel was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen and had served on the parish council. He was a lifetime member of both the Minster F.O.E. 1391 and the St. Marys F.O.E. 767. He was a member of the Home Benefit Association of New Bremen and of the former Lyons Club of New Bremen and was instrumental in the construction of the New Bremen Lyons Club Park.

He served in the signal corp of the U.S. Army.

He retired from the former Goodyear of St. Marys after 37 years.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen, with the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial will be in the St. Augustine Cemetery in Minster.

Calling hours will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen and from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the church, at which time the Rosary will be prayed.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lock One Community Arts in New Bremen.
