Robert Lee Haller, 86, a resident of Wyngate Retirement Community in Lima, formerly a resident of Otterbein St. Marys, died at 2:48 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Lima Memorial Health System, following an extended illness.
He was born on Jan. 9, 1925, in Kossuth, Auglaize County, the son of Albert Theodore and Hazel Chesta (Gross) Haller, and they preceded him in death.
On June 1, 1946, he married Grace Irene Boyer, and she survives him.
He is also survived by six children, Dorothy (Gary) Dickman of Wapakoneta, Steven (Marilyn) Haller of Spencerville, Gary (Peg) Haller of Lima, Nancy (Bill) Jordan of Tennessee, Christine (Joe) Zofkie of Lima and Janice Haller of Lima; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; a sister; a brother-in-law.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II in the Asiatic, European and South Pacific theaters. He served on the U.S.S. Chiwawa for the duration of the war.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with the Rev. William Cronk officiating.
Burial will follow in Kossuth Cemetery, where graveside military rites will be conducted by the Spencerville Veterans.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be conducted by the Sager Lodge at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Lung Association.
