Robert L. Francis, 81

Robert L. Francis, 81, formerly of 322 W. Madison St., a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, died at 5:04 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Lima Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1931, in Portsmouth, the son of Arthur and Opal (Bryan) Francis, and they preceded him in death.

He is survived by his brother, Don (Wanda) Francis of St. Marys; his nieces and nephews, Rick (Deb) Francis of St. Marys, Debbie (Tim) Smith of St. Marys, Patty Francis of St. Marys, Bob (Clista) Francis of New Knoxville, Michele (Shane) Hughes of Spencerville and Don Francis of St. Marys; numerous great-nieces and nephews; his former wife, Rowena Babcock of Dayton.

Robert was a graduate of the Columbus School for the Deaf. He then attended a trade school to do car body and fender repair and had worked at Goodwill Industries in Columbus and also as a tow truck operator. He was also a farmer in Waverly for many years.

He was a member of the Mount Zion Church of Christ in Christian Union in Lucasville, and he attended the Garden of Love Old Regular Baptist Church in St. Marys. He loved animals, kids and taking care of his farm.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses at Lima Memorial Hospital ICU for the loving care they gave to Bob.

Funeral rites will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, with Brother Gary Mosley officiating. Graveside burial rites will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Hickory Ridge Cemetery in Bentonville.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to the Garden of Love Old Regular Baptist Church in St. Marys. Condolences may be sent to Bob’s family via MillerFuneralHomes.net.
