Robert Henry Niemeyer, 84

Robert Henry Niemeyer, 84, of 08816 Washington Pike, Wapakoneta, died at 9 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at his residence, following a short illness.

He was born on July 28, 1929, in Moulton, the son of Gustave and Elsie (Buddemeyer) Niemeyer.

He married Mary L. Rohr on Nov. 7, 1949, in New Knoxville, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 27, 2014.

He is survived by his children, Debra (David) McFeely of Fort Loramie, Dale (Barb) Niemeyer of New Knoxville, Dana Niemeyer of Wapakoneta and Darren (Tracy) Niemeyer of Wapakoneta. He is survived by nine grandchildren, Ben (Niki) Niemeyer, Kristen (Joe) Harting, Shawn McFeely, Philip (Jamie) Niemeyer, Adam (Erika) Niemeyer, Ashley Niemeyer, Chad (Alexa) Niemeyer, Cole Niemeyer and Alison Niemeyer, by eight great-grandchildren, Ashley, Katelyn, Madison, Aiden, Haley, Taylor, Brandon and AJ. He is survived by his brother, George (Connie) Niemeyer  of Wapakoneta, his sister, Donna Mann of Wapakoneta and sister Julie (Vernon) Paul of New Bremen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and by one sister, Martha Strasburg.

Robert graduated from Wapakoneta High School, was a lifelong farmer and retired from the Wapakoneta Post Office, where he was a rural carrier.

He was a lifelong member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where he had served as a deacon and elder of the church.

Funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, the Rev. Dr. David Williams, officiant.

Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Ministry Center of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where memorial gifts may be given to the Radio Broadcast Fund of the church or to Wilson Hospice.
