Robert H. Potts, 88, of 534 Armstrong St., St. Marys, formerly of Arlington Heights, Ill., died suddenly on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1924, in Noble Township, Auglaize County, the son of Harry and Inez (Springer) Potts, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son, Burdette (Debbie) Potts of Algonquin, Ill.; two grandchildren, Susan (Zak) Imhoff of Lake in the Hills, Ill., and Stephanie (Matt) Moser of Fox River Grove, Ill.; five great-grandchildren; his former wife, Bonnie (Bailey) Potts of Cicero, Ill.; a close friend, Sue Campbell of Celina.
He was a 1942 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1942-46 as an X-ray technician instructor.
He was a licensed plumber and electrician and had been a building engineer of the Prospect High School in Mount Prospect, Ill., from 1959-74.
Bob was very knowledgeable about the Miami and Erie Canal and was a co-founder of the Miami Erie Canal Society. He was a member of the Buzzard Baiters Radio Control Airplane Club, and he enjoyed gardening, biking and walking. He attended the Lima Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Funeral rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., St. Marys, with the Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
