Robert E. “Red” Katterhenry, 87

Robert E. “Red” Katterhenry, 87, of 1242 Quail Run, Wapakoneta, died at 11:26 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.

He was born on Dec. 25, 1924, in Wapakoneta, the son of Gus and Daisy (DeLong) Katterhenry, and they preceded him in death.

On Jan. 9, 1945, he married Anna Hay, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2004.

He is survived by his son, Kevin (Anna) Katterhenry of Celina; a daughter, Michel Wilds of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Troy (Jennifer) Hartric, Linzi Juliano, Erinn Juliano, Jose Juliano, Lisa (Charles) Howe, Nick Katterhenry, Nan Katterhenry, Nick Fortman and Brooke (Garrett) Gray; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Baughman of Wapakoneta and Betty (Bob) Keller of Wapakoneta; a special friend, Waneta Hemlinger of Wapakoneta; a sister-in-law, Frieda Hay of St. Marys.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dick Katterhenry; three brothers-in-law, Dan Hay, Dick Baughman and Dick Longemeyer; a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Longemeyer.

Red was a graduate of Blume High School in Wapakoneta. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima with the 147th Infantry.

He had worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys for 17 years and was the founder and operator of Snack Time Restaurant for 18 years. He then co-owned Rino and Red’s Auto in Celina.

He was a member of the St. Marys Idlewild Club, the Wapakoneta Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elks Lodge and the Eagles. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Wapakoneta.

He was a member of the 80 and Over Ski Club, and he enjoyed traveling and golfing. Most of all, he loved being with his family and friends.

Funeral rites will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., St. Marys, with the Rev. Becky Sunday officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon until the time of services on Sunday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
