Robbery Suspect In Custody

CELINA — The suspect believed to be responsible for robbing a Celina bank two weeks ago is behind bars.

Officers with the Celina Police Department took Cody Maxwell, 22, into custody on Tuesday following a traffic stop in Celina. Maxwell is accused of robbing the Peoples Bank on West Logan Street on Nov. 15. He has been on the run since an arrest warrant was issued in his name. Maxwell is being held in the Mercer County Jail  without bond.

Maxwell is accused of walking into the bank and demanding money from a teller. He allegedly indicated he had a weapon on him at the time of the robbery. In a news release, Interim Celina Police Chief Calvin Freeman said he wanted to thank the FBI, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Coldwater Police Department, St. Marys Police Department, Grand Lake Task Force, Butler Township Police Department, Huber Heights Police Department, New Castle (Indiana) Police Department and the Henry County (Indiana) Sheriff’s Office for assistance in the matter.
