Ril T. Miller, 85

Ril T. Miller, 85, of Otterbein in St. Marys Retirement Community, previously of Celina and Mendon, died at 4:31 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.

He was born on Aug. 16, 1925, in Mendon, to Alpha and Josephine (Murlin) Miller, and they preceded him in death.

On Nov. 13, 1944, in Annapolis, Md., he married Viola Mae Long, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 2008.

He is survived by two sons, Ronald (Becky) Miller of Kokomo, Ind., and Randy (Shirley) Miller of Van Wert; four daughters, Rosa Van Gundy of Rockford, Linda (Ed) Frey of Fort Wayne, Ind., Rebecca (Mike) Barber of St. Marys and Lori Heckert of Ashland; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Sue Miller, on Dec. 25, 1968; three siblings and their spouses, Betty (Wayne) Kennedy, Dwight (Joan) Miller and Clayton “KK” (Gladys) Miller; a son-in-law, George Van Gundy.

He had farmed and was a rural letter carrier in the Mendon area and was a member of the Ohio Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was a member of the Montezuma Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in Annapolis, Md., during World War II. He as a 1944 graduate of Mendon-Union High School.

He loved woodworking and building rocking horses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at W.H. Dick and Sons - Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, with the Rev. Kevin Neumann officiating. Burial will be at Mendon Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Celina American Legion Post No. 210 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5713.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Life Enrichment Fund at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community or to the Kidney Dialyses Unit at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
