Rider Tennis loses close one to O-G, 3-2

April 5, 2013

OTTAWA — St. Marys head tennis coach Brice Brenneman came into Friday night’s Western Buckeye League tennis opener feeling the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans were the league team most even with his team’s skillset this spring.

The two teams played a close match, with O-G pulling out a 3-2 victory over  St. Marys.

“Ottawa is a good team,” Brenneman said. “It would’ve been nice to pull this one out, but the effort was good and I see us getting better at a couple positions.”

The Riders got wins at second singles and second doubles. St. Marys’ Jason Freewalt defeated O-G’s Alex Kuhlman, 6-2, 6-3, at second singles. The Riders’ second doubles team of Noah Hartsock and Justin Nedderman defeated O-G’s Josh Schroeder and Conner Kuhlman, 6-0, 6-3.

O-G’s Alex Schroeder won first singles over the Riders’ Cole Brooks, 6-3, 6-2.

At third singles, the Titans’ Brandon Hempfling beat St. Marys’ Nick Rohr, 6-3, 6-4. “We had a couple of long games at third singles in the second set that looked good,” Brenneman said.

O-G’s Brandon Drerup and Zac Bruskotter defeated St. Marys first doubles team of Kevin Dammeyer and Zac Nelson, 7-6, 6-1. “They got that tiebreaker there in the first set and kind of got on a roll,” Brenneman said.
