Rider Rooters have a busy fall planned 40 years after formation

Forty years  and more than $600,000 donated to St. Marys Memorial athletic programs later, the group kicked off its fall 2012 events, which include teaming up with St. Marys Tailgate for Cancer to bring two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin to the city.

Griffin will appear at Buffalo Wild Wings in St. Marys on Thursday, Aug. 23, in a fundraiser for the Rider Rooters.

Griffin will tour the town before the event, with a stop at Skip Baughman Stadium. The event falls on the same week as Griffin’s birthday, so the event will present him with a birthday cake. St. Marys Mayor Pat McGowan will present Griffin with a key to the city.

Tickets to the event are available at Buffalo Wild Wings. There are tiered tickets based on where the seating.

Upcoming Events:
—  Buffalo Wild Wings Roughrider Open, a four-man 18-hole scramble, will be played on Saturday at Northmoor. Sign-up is available at Buffalo Wild Wings and at Northmoor. Cost is $55 for greens fees and a cart along with a buffet at Buffalo Wild Wings. Transportation will be provided from the golf course to the restaurant and from the restaurant to home if within 15 miles. First prize is $500 at the golf tournament.

— The Rider Rooters will have a Bingo table at Summerfest.

— The Chicken Bowl will be on Friday, Aug. 17. Chicken dinners, catered by the Knight of Columbus, will be served from 4:30 p.m. until they are gone.

— Rider Rooter memberships are available for $20. A $500 lifetime membership is also available.

— Rider Rooter Memberships include a chicken dinner at the Chicken Bowl scrimmage, five $100 drawings at the last home football game, six 50-50 tickets for home football and basketball games and game ball drawings at home football games.
