Richard H. Brackman, 90

Richard H. Brackman, 90, of 1528 State Route 716, Maria Stein, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center.

He was born on June 6, 1922, in Maria Stein to Vincent H. Brackman and Rosa E. Bohman, who preceded him in death.

On Jan. 24, 1987, he married Barbara Cornell and she survives in Maria Stein. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Cynthia and Mark Briggs of St. Marys, Laureen and Randall Lininger of St. Marys, Kent E. Cornell of Edgerton and Nathan Cornell of White Bear Lake, Minn.; three stepgrandchildren, Morgan Brown, Angie Lininger and Derek Lininger; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Riley Benoit and Lilyaunna Benoit; brother Ivo and Jean Brackman of Maria Stein; sister-in-law Julie Brackman of Troy; mother-in-law Julia Eggleston of St. Marys.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Brackman, an infant brother Linus  and an infant sister, Marie.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Maria Stein, the American Legion of Maria Stein, and the VFW Chickasaw, Steelworkers Union.

He was employed at New Idea for 38 years, and at Maria Stein Grain.

He was a veteran of  World War II, a Staff Sergeant in the 717 Army Tank Battalion and drove Sherman E8 Widetrack Tanks.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Church, the Rev. Tom Brenberger Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Maria Stein with full military honors. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster.
