Richard E. “Dick” Place, 87

Richard E. “Dick” Place, 87, of rural Cridersville, died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Otterbein-Cridersville Senior Living Center, where he had resided since January.

He was born on Jan. 23, 1925, in Spencerville, to Arthur L. and Sylvia I. Sutton Place, and they preceded him in death.

On  May 20, 1950, he married Beryl M. Patterson, and she survives.

He is also survived by three daughters, Cindy (Jim) Newcomer of Lima, Becky (Bob) Rider of Elida and Melinda (Bill) Bryan of Dublin; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with the Rev. Vince Lavieri officiating.

Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery with military rites by the Spencerville Veterans.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
