CELINA — A traffic stop and complaints from residents led to one of the largest heroin seizures in Mercer County Thursday night.

According to a news release from the Celina Police Department, officers gathered information to obtain a search warrant and executed it on a home located at 306 S. Brandon Ave. at 6:16 p.m. Thursday. Officers found three people inside the home. Once the three were secured, officers started to search the home and discovered a large amount of heroin as well as approximately $10,000 in cash during the two-and-a-half hour search.

Alleged suspicious activity at the residence sparked numerous complaints from residents in the neighborhood.

The owner of the home, Benjamin W. Cordier, was not home at the time of the search.  One male subject taken into custody listed his address as the home that was searched, but the other male and the female, both of whom were allegedly found to have drugs in their possession, claimed they were visiting the residence.  All three suspects from the home are being held in the Mercer County Jail on a bond of $250,000 each.

Two male suspects from the traffic stop also are being held.  The driver of the vehicle faces multiple suspension violations and is being held on a $25,000 bond.  The passenger, who was allegedly found to be in possession of heroin, is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Celina police officers were assisted at the traffic stop by deputies from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.  Formal charges are expected to be filed against all suspects through the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.  The names of the suspects are being withheld until that time.

In January, officers seized 9.7 grams of heroin during an arrest — the largest seizure at the time. The amount of heroin seized Thursday is believed to be as much, if not more. The exact amount will be determined following lab analysis.
