Pedestrian Struck Near Wapakoneta

November 11, 2011

WAPAKONETA — Troopers from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol are investigating an injury crash involving a pedestrian.

According to a crash report, troopers were called to Cemetery Road, near U.S. 33, at 6:39 a.m. Friday and found that Safee Thompson, 28, of Philadelphia, parked his trailer facing south on Cemetery Road. He exited the vehicle and began walking to the rear of it in an attempt to make contact with the tractor stopped behind him.

As Thompson walked to the rear, he entered the northbound lane and was struck by a 2002 Chevy Yukon driven by Lisa Kaeck, 36, of Wapakoneta. Thompson suffered incapacitating injuries and was transported to Lima Memorial Hospital for treatment. Kaeck was uninjured as was a passenger in the Yukon.

Thompson received citations for failing to yield to a motor vehicle and illegally parking on the roadway, both misdemeanors. The Wapakoneta Police Department, Auglaize County Sheriff's Office and Wapakoneta Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
