Pastor John W. Daniel Sr., 80

Pastor John W. Daniel Sr., 80, of 15786 State Route 66, St. Marys, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

He was born on Jan. 23, 1932, in Pineville, Ky., the son of Willie Lee and Icy Mae (Partin) Daniel.

He married Pauline Rhodes on Jan. 13, 1951, and she survives at the residence.

He is also survived by his four children, Laban (Kathy) Daniel of St. Marys, Pastor Alva (Cheryl) Daniel of St. Marys, Sandra (David) Stammer of Blancester, Edmund (Carmen) Daniel of St. Marys; by 10 grandchildren, Michael Daniel, Meggan Daniel Yahl, Sean Daniel, Christopher Burns, Bradley Burns, Priscilla Laws, Stacy Schoen, Zachary Daniel, Tyler Daniel and Cody Daniel; by 27 great-grandchildren; by his siblings, Beatrice Daniels of Lafayette, Ind., James Daniel of Louisville, Ky., Jerleen Mason of Pineville, Ky., Hazel Roark of Pineville, Ky., Jerry Daniel of Lafayette, Ind., by four half-sisters, Bertha Buis, Francis Chandler, Beulah Limkin and Patty Jo Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by three children, Icy Yvonne Daniel, John W. Daniel Jr. and Benjamin Lee Daniel; by two grandsons, Brian Daniel and Edmund Lee Daniel Jr.; by a great-grandson, Jesse Daniel; by his siblings, Willie Lee Daniel Jr., Sarah Jane Gibson, Hershel Daniel and Charles Daniel.

Pastor Daniel retired from White-New Idea Corporation.

He was the pastor of the St. Marys Missionary Baptist Church in St. Marys for many years. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and sports. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral rites will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, the Rev. Terry Brock, officiant.

Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to St. Marys Missionary Baptist Church.
