Palmer Halbert, 86, of 328 Oliver St., St. Marys, died on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on July 26, 1927, in Salisbury, Ky., the son of Garner and Nannie (Stewart) Halbert.
He married Nannie Foster on April 19, 1947, in Paintsville, Ky., and she survives at the residence.
He is survived by his four children, Pam (Byron) Chivington of St. Marys, Paula Peters of Kettering, Wanda Sawmiller of St. Marys, Warren (Michelle) Halbert of St. Marys.
He is survived by seven grandchildren, Jeff Chivington, Mandy Wynk, Brian Peters, Brad Halbert, Brent Halbert, Dustin Halbert and Kristi Meyer. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, and by one sister, Emma Grace Billups of Martin, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by three brothers, Jake Halbert, James Halbert and Aster Halbert.
Palmer was a 1946 graduate of McDowell High School. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, gardening and watching University of Kentucky basketball.
Funeral rites will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, the Rev. Bill Drummond, officiant.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
