Oran Barber, 99

Oran Barber, 99, a resident of Greenfield, Ind., died at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Pleasant View Lodge in McCordsville, Ind.

He was born on Aug. 1, 1913, in Auglaize County, to Walter and Minnie Miller Barber.

Oran and Magdalene “Shorty” Skinner were married on Dec. 21, 1932, and on Nov. 4, 2001, she preceded him in death.  Also preceding him in death were his parents ; three siblings, Willis Barber, Luella Trempert and Marian Nelson.

Surviving are three children, Bill (Barbara) Barber of rural St. Marys, Bob (Ladonna) Barber of Dothan, Ala. and Janet (George) Grabbe of Greenfield, Ind.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A 1931 Mendon-Union graduate, Oran worked at several St. Marys auto dealerships before moving to Florida in 1954. He retired in 1978 from Florida Gas and moved to Indiana in 2000, residing there with his daughter. An avid Christian, he had attended Nazarene Churches in Ohio and Florida. Oran was an aviation enthusiast, having owned and built several airplanes in Florida.

Viewing will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Dick and Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, with services to follow at 2 p.m.

Burial will be held at Calvary Evangelical Cemetery in Salem Township.
