Opal L. Pugh, 79, formerly of Greenville Road in St. Marys, died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at her residence in Hudson, Fla., surround by her loving family.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1934, in Chillicothe, to Hommie Lee and Margaret (Burnette) Cooper.
On Jan. 31, 1950, in Richmond, Ind., she married Junior O. Pugh, who died on Nov. 16, 2009.
Survivors include four sons, Carl (Pam) Pugh of Celina; Joseph Pugh of Fayetteville, Ark.; Robert (Polly) Pugh of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and Jesse (Susan) Pugh of Hudson, Fla.; a daughter, Nancy (Herschel) Jackson of Rose Hill, Va.; and daughter-in-law Melodia Pugh of GFM, Guam, a stepdaughter, Wanda (Richard) Hartline of Tremonton, Utah; 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren , six great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Mona Hitchell of York, S.C., a brother, Bob (Nancy) Cooper of Franklin, Ind.; half-brother Dewey Knipp of Bethel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hommie Lee and Margaret Cooper, an infant son, Johnny Ray Pugh, brother Hommie Lee Cooper Jr., stepmother Marie Cooper, and stepbrothers Ronnie and Donnie Patton.
She was a homemaker and worked as a cook at the former Mom and Pop’s Restaurant in downtown St. Marys. Her favorite pastimes included camping, dancing, listening to country gospel music, gardening, floral arranging and creating handmade greeting cards.
Graveside funeral rites are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, the Rev. Stephen Merold, officiant.
Memorial contributions may be directed to either Dayton Children’s Medical Center or Community Health Professionals Hospice in Celina.
