Opal L. Miller, 98

Opal L. Miller, 98, of Cridersville, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014, at Cridersville Health Care.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1915, in Auglaize County, the daughter of the late Isaac and Louise Schlenker Mowery.

On April 8, 1937, she married Elbert Merle Miller, who died on July 8, 2000.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. She was a member of the St. Johns Grange 2520, past master of the Union Center Garage, a Farm Bureau member, a member of the Uniopolis Historical Society, the Wapakoneta Eagles Auxiliary 691 and had served for 30 years on the Auglaize County Election Board.

She was an active member with the Wapakoneta Senior Citizens, where she and her husband were Auglaize County’s Outstanding Senior Citizens in 1992, and they were great supporters of the Auglaize County Fair.

She was very creative and enjoyed crafts. Her abilities and hobbies including caning chairs, crocheting, making rugs and helping make quilts. She was well known for making wedding, birthday and different occasion cakes.

Survivors include nieces Zoe Dillon of Springfield, Sondra Mann of Lima, Mona (Don) Smith of Tennessee, Janet (Larry) Foor of Bellefontaine, nephews Marvin (Barbara) Logan of Wapakoneta, Melvin (Jeanne) Miller of Lima and several grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Murrell Mowery, nieces Kay Sweet, Pam Darbyshire and nephew David Shaw.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
