Opal J. Howell, 92

Opal J. Howell, 92, of Mendon,  passed away  on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 , at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.

She was born on Feb. 20, 1921, in Center Township, Mercer County. She was the daughter of Mary (Bachar) and Denver Pond.

Opal married Norval “Louie” Howell on March 7, 1942 , and he preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1996.

Surviving Opal are two sons, Dean (Barb) Howell of Celina and Robert (Kathy) Howell of Canton; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren;  three sisters; a sister-in-law.

Preceding Opal in death were four siblings, Carl (Sylvia) Pond, Wayne Pond,

Kathryn (Dale) Fisher  and an infant sister; two  brothers-in-law; and  two stepbrothers.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at  Mendon United Methodist Church, the Rev. Don Clinger officiant.

Burial will be at Mendon Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at  W.H. Dick and Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Mendon and an hour before services on Saturday at the Church.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the  Mendon United Methodist Church.
