OLYMPIC TRIALS: Fleagle competes in Omaha, eyes 2016 Olympics

July 2, 2012

OMAHA, Neb. —  Josh Fleagle finished 133rd in the 50-meter freestyle with a 23.77-second time at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska, on Saturday.

The home school student from rural St. Marys who has already started classes at Ohio State this summer said he knew this year’s trials were about getting his feet wet.

The 18-year old future Buckeye swimmer has his eyes on 2016 as his best chance at the Olympics.

“After this is over, I just plan on putting my head down and working straight through four years, and I plan on coming back in four years and making the Olympic team,” Fleagle told the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Thursday while in Omaha. “I haven’t tapped in to what I can do yet, so once I get this in my system and see how it goes and go off to college and get a solid four years in, I’ll be around 22 next time and pretty primed to make it.”

Fleagle finished 133rd out of 167 swimmers in the event.
