OHSAA Notes: State football attendance up 13,000

December 9, 2011

State Football Attendance Up: The OHSAA state football finals got a bump in attendance this season, drawing 48,695 fans to the sites at Massillon and Canton last weekend, the OHSAA announced on Friday.

That number was nearly 13,000 more people than last year's attendance.

Three teams from the Midwest Athletic Conference and Western Buckeye League played in state championship games, with Marion Local winning the Division VI crown and Coldwater and Kenton losing in the Division V and IV finales, respectively.

Coldwater and Kirtland in Division V drew 6,654 fans last Friday.  The box scores of the Marion Local and Kenton games did not have attendance figures listed.

No to the triple jump: The OHSAA board of directors rejected a proposal to add the triple jump to the track and field events. The vote was 4-4 with a board member absent. In the event of a tie, the proposal is rejected.

Baseball, Softball start date Feb. 20: The starting date for baseball and softball players to practice as a team is Feb. 20 this season. In previous seasons, pitchers were able to start two weeks earlier. This year all players start on that date.
