Officials Break Ground On Bank
ST. MARYS — One of the newest businesses to the St. Marys area broke ground Thursday morning.
Representatives from Superior Federal Credit Union celebrated with a groundbreaking at its site between JT’s Brew and Grill and Buffalo Wild Wings.
Superior Federal Credit Union Marketing Director Kurt Neeper kicked off the groundbreaking at the site located at 462 Fortman Drive in the Shoppes at St. Marys by welcoming those who came out for the ceremony.
“We’re thrilled to become a part of the St. Marys community,” Neeper said. “Hopefully, crews will be coming in and turning dirt tomorrow morning.”
Next, Superior Federal Credit Union President Phil Buell noted they picked the St. Marys site after being encouraged by a few of their customers.
“We have members out in here in the Grand Lake area who wanted us come out here,” Buell said. “We fell in love with the site.”
He said they are ready to begin work on the full-service office and drive-thru.
“We look forward to getting started,” he said. “Hopefully that’ll be sometime today or tomorrow.”
He noted they are waiting on one more permit from the EPA.
“We hope to be open by early November,” Buell said. “We look forward to providing our services here in the Grand Lake region.”
Phil Schumann will serve as manager of the St. Marys Superior Federal Credit Union location. Schumann has been operating Superior’s temporary consumer and mortgage location in St. Marys at 208 E. Spring St.
“I appreciate everyone coming out,” Schumann said. “So far, the reception has been good in the St. Marys community from both directions.”
St. Marys Community Improvement Corporation President Kraig Noble thanked Superior for choosing to come to St. Marys.
“This is a testament to our city and what we’re doing, this whole shopping center is a testament to that, and this will be a great addition,” Noble said. “We wish you great success here.”
Then, Buell, along with Superior Federal Credit Union Vice President of Sales and Lending Keith Eiden, Schumann and Noble broke ground at the site.
According to a news release, the location near Kroger will allow for the initial hire of five to seven new jobs, with the possibility of additional jobs being created as growth dictates. Schnipke Builders, of Glandorf, has been selected as the general contractor for the project. The facility was designed by Dick Wuest of K4 Architecture in Cincinnati.
“We feel the new St. Marys location will complement our other branches throughout the area,” Buell said in the news release. “Our goal is to provide our members with great service at the most convenient locations.”
Superior Federal Credit Union currently serves more than 48,000 members with assets of $400 million. The credit union also provides consumer and mortgage loans, checking and savings accounts, brokerage services and small business services and loans.
