New Shop To Offer Baked Goods
ST. MARYS — A bakery thrift store is set to open its doors in the coming weeks in the city of St. Marys.
Officials from Aunt Millie’s Bakeries, headquartered in Fort Wayne, Ind., confirmed to The Evening Leader their intentions of opening a thrift store in St. Marys Square. The new shop will occupy the former Ernst Sporting Goods storefront.
“This will consist of a super store that will be open every day,” Aunt Millie’s Marketing Director Melissa Dunning said. “It will be open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with limited hours on the weekends.”
The super store, Dunning noted, will carry premium items at a reduced price. Some of the items will see discounts of more than 50 percent.
“They are route returns,” Dunning said. “They are products that were out in stores and were returned and are within a day or two before they expire.”
Items that will be carried in the store include bread, buns, rolls as well as pies, cakes and other snack foods. The company has a bakery in Sidney and Fort Wayne as well as four in Michigan. The shop will employ six employees and is slated to open in late May or early June.
St. Marys Development Manager Susan Crotty welcomed the news.
“We are very excited about it,” Crotty told The Evening Leader. “I think they have a product that the city will enjoy, and I think they will attract a lot of visitors to the city. We are excited to have them be a part of the community.”
