WAPAKONETA — On one great shooting night  the New Knoxville Rangers put up more points than they did all last weekend.

New Knoxville scored 20 points in each of the first two quarters in a hot-shooting first half, held off a Wapakoneta rally early in the fourth quarter and then hit its free throws down the stretch for a 77-65 win over the Redskins on Tuesday night.

New Knoxville ended a two-game losing streak and climbed back to .500 on the season at 6-6. After a 44-33 loss to St. Henry on Friday and a 54-42 loss to Jackson Center on Saturday, New Knoxville got space to roam offensively on Tuesday and ripped the nets.

Ryan Lageman led a Ranger team that put four players in double figures with 19 points, including a 3 of 3 night from 3-point range. Isaac Kuntz added 14 points, Shane Topp hit a trio of 3-pointers and had 13 points. Andrew Arnett scored 12 points.

After two cold-shooting nights against Marion Local and Jackson Center last weekend, the Rangers shot 54 percent from the floor against Wapakoneta.

The Rangers were especially deadly from 3-point range, where they connected on 8 of 16 shots.

“In the first half we came out with pretty good flow,” New Knoxville head coach Kort Fledderjohann said. “We actually hit some shots. I think if you look back at our losses the last couple of weeks we have one half where we shoot good and we have one half where we’re below 30 percent and really struggle.”

Sam Hinegardner led Wapakoneta with 13 points. Adam Henderson added nine points.
