NEW BREMEN — A new group has formed with a goal to support New Bremen’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter.
The newly formed Ag Boosters Club is a nonprofit group with goals to support the New Bremen FFA students, whether through financial assistance or through networking opportunities. FFA Adviser Katy McGovern said the Ag Boosters formed after she was contacted by a few residents with an interest.
“Some people in the community wanted to do something alumni-based,” McGovern said. “We’ve opened it up to anyone with an interest in ag.”
She noted members do not have to be a New Bremen graduate or a New Bremen resident.
“You do not have to be a graduate of New Bremen, live in the district or be a past FFA member,” McGovern said, noting the only requirement is an interest in agriculture or vocational education. “It’s open to anybody.”
McGovern said the group will assist FFA students with some of the expenses they take on by participating.
“When the kids are in ag, they pay for a lot,” she said. “If we had something like the Ag Boosters, we could offset some of those costs.”
Networking, she noted, will also be helpful for the FFA students.
“We want to build the Ag Boosters as a network as well,” she said. “So, when the kids graduate, they have some contacts in the industry.”
The Ag Boosters Club will have its first official meeting at 8 p.m. March 7 in the ag room at New Bremen High School. Several topics will be covered at the meeting, including the club’s structure, officer elections and fundraisers in addition to laying out what the group’s goals are.
“We’ve got some ideas for activities and we’re going to get those out there and get a game plan and see if there’s an interest,” McGovern said.
She noted that she will be available to answer questions at the meeting.
“Myself and the Ag Advisory will be here to run the meeting and answer any questions people may have,” McGovern said.
Anyone interested in joining the club is welcome at the meeting, McGovern said. She encouraged anyone that is unable to attend the meeting but would like to get involved to contact her at 419-629-8606 or e-mail her at Katy.firstname.lastname@example.org.
