WAPAKONETA — A 1983 graduate of Waynesfield-Goshen High School and an office manager and legal assistant at a Lima law firm is tabbed to be the next director of the Auglaize County Elections Board.
Michelle Wilcox received unanimous support from the four Elections Board members to replace Elections Board Director Carolyn Campbell, who is scheduled to retire July 31. Wilcox is to replace Campbell effective Aug. 1, but board members intend to hire her as an intern so she can learn under Campbell and other Elections Board staff and so she can attend a state seminar at the end of June.
“I thought her qualifications were outstanding,” Elections Board President Fran Engle said after this morning’s meeting to nominate and name a successor for Campbell. “I thought one of the things we were looking for was how was the person going to get along with a lot of people and how was the person going to deal with a stressful situation and we knew she could do the job because she had already handled a lot of stressful situations.
“Our biggest challenge is our salary is very low,” she said. “A lot of people do not want the position because they have to drop to a lower salary.”
Wilcox will be paid an annual salary of $36,795.
