Near Drowning In Celina

May 30, 2012

CELINA — Emergency crews responded to a call of a possible drowning at Celina’s Eastview Park on Tuesday evening. Central Dispatch received a 911 call at 7:29 p.m. Tuesday reporting that a subject had gone under while swimming at the pond. The Celina Fire Department and Celina Police Department responded to the call. Fire department personnel pulled the victim from the water shortly after arriving on the scene.

They immediately began CPR procedures and transported the victim to Mercer Health. While the full extent of the injuries from being underwater has not yet been determined, the victim was stabilized and transported by Life Flight to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

The victim was identified as David C. Royse, 20, of Celina. He had been swimming with friends after attending a cook-out.  At this point there are no indications alcohol was a factor in the incident.
