MINSTER — A Minster resident died Thursday afternoon from injuries suffered in a one-vehicle crash near Fort Loramie.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene of a crash on Canal Road No. 1, four-tenths of a mile east of the Ohio 66 intersection. Ina Smith, 50, of Minster, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a report, Smith was driving a 1990 Jeep Cherokee east on Canal Road No. 1 and while attempting to negotiate a left-hand curve, Smith traveled off the right side of the road for an unknown reason and struck a tree. Smith was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be freed by mechanical means.

Smith's German Shepherd also was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and was injured. The dog was taken to the Shelby County Animal Shelter until family members could pick up the animal.
