Mildred F. Steele, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:33 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born on Nov. 17, 1926, in Pineville, Ky., the daughter of Luther and Sarah (Partin) Evans, who preceded her in death.
On Nov. 25, 1953, she married Earl “Bud” Gannon, and he died on Sept. 9, 1961.
Survivors include six children, Earl Eugene “Gene” (Margie) Gannon of Wapakoneta, Anita Jordan of Columbus, Judy (Steve) Shaner of Wapakoneta, Beverly (Tim) Bradner of Findlay, Lisa (Michael) Dietz of Hubert, N.C., Theresa Blanton of Grand Junction, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Numbers; a brother, Luther Evans Jr.; and two sisters, Beulah Evans and Dorothy Bair.
A homemaker, Mildred worked at the Lima Ordinance Depot, during World War II. She also worked at Sealts Cleaners of Lima, Holmes Cleaners of Effingham, Ill., and as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, Auxiliary, Wapakoneta, and the AARP.
Her hobbies included playing poker, bingo, and shopping on QVC. Mildred was an avid Elvis Presley fan, loved to laugh and tell jokes, and loved animals.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta, Rosalie Lora, officiating. Burial is to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
