Michael P. Grove, 70, of Wapakoneta, died on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, in Allen County, where he was working on the Miami and Erie Canal restoration.
He was born on March 21, 1942, in Zanesville, the son of Gene and June (Pierce) Grove, and they preceded him in death.
On Sept. 29, 1979, he married Anne M. Heil, and she survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Mark (Nicole) Grove of Lima, Gary Grove of Kettering and Michael (Teena) Grove of Gilbert, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Bret Grove, Lakin Grove, Bailey Young, Olivia Grove, Brooklyn Grove, Kendall Grove and Ronin Grove; a sister-in-law, Marcia Quellhorst; a niece, Michelle Scheer; his former wife, Sharon (Mike) Roeder.
Mike retired from Westinghouse Corp., Lima, after 29 years of service. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Brands Lake Fishing Club and the Ohio Buckeye Farmers Club.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, boating and camping. He was a member of the Jennings Creek Rendezvous, and his nickname was Tomahawk. He also volunteered as a group leader with the Miami and Erie Canal Corridor Association.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Ohio 501, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Joy Miller officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
