Merle D. Schuller, 78

Merle D. Schuller, 78, of 04912 Salem – Noble Road in rural St. Marys, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

He was born March 28, 1936 in Putnam County, to Bernard and Ella (Drew) Schuller.

On June 6, 1958, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in St. Marys, he married Carolyn M. Metz, who survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Michele (Nick) McDermitt  of Morocco, Ind.; and Missy (Roy Jay) Roby  of St. Marys; a son, Mark (Jennifer) Schuller  of St. Marys; seven grandchildren, Nicole (David) Hanen; Jace (Jennifer) McDermitt; Jeremy McDermitt; Lyndsey Roby; Courtney Roby; Marissa Engle and Emma Schuller; three great-grandchildren, Lucas Hanen; Erin Hanen and Emersyn McDermitt; three sisters, Irene Thatcher  of Rockford; Sharon (Larry) Seibert  of Spencerville and Deanna (Harold) Carr  of Bitely, Mich.; one brother, Anthony (Charlotte) Schuller  of Warsaw, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Marvin Schuller, Wayne Schuller and Alvin Schuller and two sisters, Deloris Gilliland and Bernadine Jacobs.

Mr. Schuller retired from United Equity in Spencerville and Kossuth, where he worked as a grain hauler. He had also worked at Avco-New Idea in Coldwater and Metz Electric in St. Marys.

He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in St. Marys.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunting, camping and fishing.

Services are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Ohio 703 West Chapel, in St. Marys, the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to either Kidney Dialysis Unit in Celina or the St. Paul’s UCC.
