Mary M. Carmean, 93

Mary May Carmean, 93, formerly of 05070 County Road 33A, St. Marys, and a resident of the Golden Living Center in St. Marys, died at 7:17 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013.

She was born on May 19, 1920, in Salem Township, Auglaize County, the daughter of Archelaus and Irena (Baker) Martin.

She married James S. Carmean on Jan. 10, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 2010.

She is survived by her two daughters, Diana (Arthur) Nungester of Spencerville and Darlene Vaube of Bluffton; five grandchildren, Julie (Robert) Sloan of Delphos; Melanie (Bruce) Lee of Van Lue; Lisa (Nick) Sloan of Delphos; James Vaubel of Miami, Fla.; Cindy (David) Layman of Anderson, Ind.; by 11 great-grandchildren, Greg Sloan; Andrea Marshall; Brandy Sloan; Angelia McDade; Jennifer Wilson; Sarah Taylor; Gary Grubbs III; Ashley Sloan; Kristy Steavesen; Mandy Hickey and Jennifer Hickey; by 18 great-great-grandchildren; by one great-great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her siblings, Cleora Layton, Norman Martin, Richard Martin, John Martin, Peter Martin, Carl Martin, Kathryn McPheron, Ruth Dershem and Eunice Shock.

Mary was a 1938 graduate of Spencerville High School. She was a homemaker and had worked at the G.C. Murphy Company and Jack’s Shoe Store, both in St. Marys. She was a member of Wayne St. United Methodist Church in St. Marys, and the Women’s Guild of the church. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend who also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

Funeral rites will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, the Rev. Jon Kraner, officiant.

Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
