Mary Jo Pfenning, 79

Mary Jo Pfenning, 79, of 241 N. Spruce St., St. Marys, died at 8:49 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, following a sudden illness.

She was born on April 22, 1932, in St. Marys, to William and Erma (Sprague) Suchland, and they preceded her in death.

On Oct. 2, 1952, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, she married   J. Philip Pfenning, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 2007.

She is survived by three sons, John (Penny) Pfenning of New Knoxville, Thomas (Julie) Pfenning of New Bremen and Michael Pfenning of St. Marys; a daughter, Julie (Doug) Metz of St. Marys; three grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah) Pfenning of New Knoxville, Katie Jo Pfenning of New Knoxville and Mitchell Pfenning of New Bremen; two great-grandchildren, Airyah Jo and Makena Michelle Pfenning, both of New Knoxville; a sister, Vonnalee Howick  of St. Marys; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Pfenning of St. Marys, Frances Suchland of St. Marys and Janet Suchland of Trotwood; a brother-in-law,  Robert Burke of St. Marys.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Philip Pfenning; a granddaughter, Michelle Pfenning; two brothers, Robert Suchland and William Suchland; a sister, Evelyn James.

She was a 1950 graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys. She was a homemaker and had done catering for a number of years.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and American Legion Post 323 auxiliary, both in St. Marys.

Her favorite pastimes included traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Rites are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller – Long & Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., St. Marys, with the Rev. Greg Bornhorst officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home on High Street.
